About the author

Solveig Hvidtfeldt

Since 2007, Solveig Hvidtfeldt has been working with leadership, collaboration, and cultural understanding as a teacher, advisor and manager. Together with Line Larsen and Sille van Loon, she has created a consulting firm where conflict management and collaboration are not just theory, but part of daily practice.

Throughout her working life, she has advised managers at all levels in the business world, been a sparring partner in the development of organisations, served as a union representative, and been responsible for hiring, dismissals, and negotiations at many levels.

Solveig is a trained nurse and holds a Master of Gender and Culture from the University of Southern Denmark and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Roskilde University. She has seen people come into the world and people leave it – and stood alongside their loved ones. This gives perspective on the small frustrations of everyday life, which we sometimes give too much space, and at the same time an awareness that our short journey here on earth makes the work of reducing conflicts and replacing them with development and learning even more important.

Her experiences from organisational life, her role as a union representative, and her work with people across industries have shaped her conviction: that conflicts hold potential for development if we approach them with curiosity, respect, and courage.

Solveig is driven by a simple but powerful focus: to make tomorrow’s world better than today’s. The path to this goal may look different for each individual and each organisation, but for Solveig, it always begins with behaving – so that we can look ourselves and others in the eye.

Conflict is an unavoidable part of life

– both at work and in our private lives. But it does not have to grow into something damaging. This book offers insight, understanding, and practical tools to help you navigate the conflicts you encounter and contribute to a healthy, supportive working environment.

Drawing on personal preferences and behavioural patterns, the author guides you through the key dimensions of conflict management. You will gain insight into the conflict escalation model and different ways of responding to conflict, and you will learn how to facilitate difficult conversations with courage, empathy, and constructive feedback.

Through reflective questions and practical examples, you are invited to explore your own reactions and relationships, and to discover how to draw on your strengths when conflict arises.

Conflict is not only about how you feel, but how you deal with it.

With a clear and personal approach, the author presents a range of ways to understand, address and handle conflict. The book is rich in practical tools to help prevent and resolve conflict, strengthen collaboration, and foster better working relationships, both for yourself and for those around you.

Whether you are a manager, employee, project manager, or facilitator, or simply curious to understand conflict more fully, you will find inspiration and practical methods to help you navigate the small and large challenges of working life with confidence.

________

Thank you to Solveig for writing a valuable book that challenges our perspective on conflicts. Many workplaces strive to harness the strength found in people’s differences, yet employees often lack practical tools to address the conflicts that inevitably emerge.

Conflicts are often described as “the second dysfunction” that prevents teams from performing at their best. In Solveig’s book, you will discover practical tools to understand conflicts, along with concrete examples of how to resolve them. The blend of insight and hands-on advice demonstrates that conflicts do not have to be a threat; instead, they can become a driving force for development, stronger relationships, and improved results. I hope that everyone working in large organisations will read this book, so they can contribute to making their workplace better and more effective.

Kasper Tarp Mortensen
Sr. Director, Novo Nordisk

If, as a leader, you believe that conflicts can be avoided, you are mistaken. This book demonstrates how to transform conflicts into strengths. Solveig challenges the tendency to avoid conflict and inspires leaders to embrace disagreement as a shortcut to improved results. This is a book that proves conflicts are not dangerous – rather, it is the fear of conflict that can hold us back.

Pernille Erichsen
Deputy Director, the Danish Association of Managers and Executives

As a leader and adviser, I recognise that conflicts are inevitable. This book demonstrates how they can be transformed into opportunities for improved collaboration and stronger results.

Michael Lykke Bülow
CEO, Business Partnering Institute

I have read Solveig’s book on conflict management with great interest. What stands out to me is the emphasis on creating frameworks that allow conflicts to be managed constructively. When we achieve this, conflicts are no longer a threat, but rather a source of growth. In these situations, we discover new solutions, gain deeper understanding of one another, and strengthen our sense of community. Solveig’s writing makes it clear that conflict management is, to a large extent, about having the courage to address difficult issues while maintaining respect for others. This is a message that resonates strongly with me as a leader. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how conflicts can be transformed into a strength rather than a weakness.

Jette Wilhelmsen
Executive Director, Joannahuset

Resolve the Conflict demonstrates that culture is shaped not by fine words, but by daily actions. This book offers practical tools for transforming conflicts into opportunities for growth, emphasising open communication, psychological safety, and clear frameworks. As the manager of a culture-driven consulting firm, I find it invaluable to have practical examples collected in one place. This enables us to treat each other with respect, even when the pressure rises and complexity grows.
